How to apply?

Now that you know you are eligible to apply, let’s see how to apply.

The stages of preparing your application:

  1. Gather the supporting documents
  2. Obtain the LATEST application package and guide
  3. Complete the application forms
  4. Sort the application package along with the supporting documents
  5. Proof read the application package and ensure there are no mistakes
  6. Send the application out!

Let’s see every stage in detail.

1. Gather the supporting documents:

This is the most time consuming task and requires a lot of attention and running around. There are 2 checklists to work with, the CIO checklist called Document Checklist [IMM 5612] and the VO specific checklist which can be obtained from the below link. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/skilled-mission.asp

The main supporting document to gather for the CIO checklist is the language test results and the original test result has to be submitted to the CIO. Please note that the IELTS results are valid to submit until they are 2 years old. The rest are the photocopies of documents which you will already have.

Please refer to the VO specific checklist for documents to gather for the same.

How do i decide which VO is mine and if i am eligible to apply under that VO?

2. Obtain the LATEST application package and guide:

Please obtain the latest application packages and guides from the below link, once you are ready to fill up the forms as they are bound to make updates to the forms often.

Federal Skilled Worker Application Package.

3. Complete the application forms:

  • Please use some pdf editing software(Foxit for example) as you can type as well as save the form for future use. Adobe only allows you to type and print the forms instantly.
  • Please use a new blank sheet wherever there is a space crunch in the forms.
  • Do not forget to indicate the following on the extra sheets – Name of the person filling the form, whether he/she is the PA/Spouse/Dependant, Date and signature

4. Sort the application package along with the supporting documents:

So, how to sort the application package? Well, there has to be 2 main divisions checklist wise.

  • First goes the CIO checklist and ALL the documents indicated in the same – Paperclip them
  • Second is the VO checklist and the documents indicated in the same, minus the overlapping documents that were already clipped to the previous bunch(eg. IELTS TRF) – Paperclip them
  • Both the bunches may be put together in a bigger paper clip.
  • Be careful not to staple important documents(Bank draft, photographs etc.,)

5. Proof read the application package and ensure there are no mistakes:

This is a must and every word in the application forms needs to be checked. We have had several application forms failing the completeness check @ the CIO, for minor mistakes as indicating the CIO as a VO.

Please ensure you check the boxes for ALL the relevant documents that are enclosed, in the checklists. Please check boxes for the overlapping documents in the VO checklist, although you have attached them to the CIO checklist.

6. Send the application out!
