Update: Week 1:)

The first week has been as exciting for us here πŸ™‚ We now have

1. Received our SIN numbers πŸ™‚

We visited the nearest Service Canada center and filled out a very simple application form. The supporting documents required are the passports, landing papers and address proofs(we had the rental agreement ready). In 15 minutes, we had our SIN numbers printed on a paper and the plastic cards will arrive later by mail.

2. Bank accounts are activated πŸ™‚

We visited our Scotia bank branch to get the accounts activated. Our personal banker had our debit cards and credit cards ready, along with the welcome package. It took an hour for us to complete the procedures and now we have perfect Canadian bank accounts πŸ™‚

3. Prab now has a G License to drive πŸ™‚

We visited the nearest Drivetest center and got Prab’s UK driving license exchanged for a Ontario G license. This took about 20 minutes :).

4. The kid is into School already πŸ™‚

We visited the nearest Welcome Center for the local school board and registered him for school. The supporting documents required are passports, landing papers, vaccination certificates. Bingo he was into school the very next day πŸ™‚

Sort of an achievement eh!

Indira Prabhakaran.

    Dear Madam,
1st of all heartiest congratualtions on your visa success and successful landing thereafter πŸ™‚
I have been following your blog from over 20 days now and find it extremely helpful and informative ! Thank you very much for posting such useful blogs and helping people with their queries…
I cant resist the temptation of asking u my query :-
Applied under the FSW category, NOC 3142 (physiotherapist)
Application recd by CIO Nova Scotia Sydney :- 27 th June 2011
Bank Draft Encashed by CIC on 11th July 2011
E-Mail received from CIC giving UCI and Application No. on 29th August 2011
E – Cas showed :- CIO Elligibility review complete, application being forwarded to Visa Office
Now E-cas shows :- Application recd. by Visa Office
Meanwhile, I have recd a snail mail from NDVO which has a covering letter about the acknowledgement of my completed application & contained an invoice for my payment. I believe this is 2nd AOR…pls correct me if i am worng
MAIN Query :- Can u pls advise how long roughly the NDVO will take to sent me medicals request ?
Further, I have been blessed with a baby in August 2nd Week…it will take me 2 months to procure a passport for the baby and also I have not sent 150$ for the baby while applying (because baby wasnt born yet, i sent only $1100 for me and my wife)…
Please advise :- 1) In your opinion how long NDVO takes to sent out medicals request
    2) I am going to use the case specific form for updating my family detail. Pls tell me shall I send in the birth certificate and $150 payment for processing of baby’s application by hard post to Canadian High Commission or wait for baby’s passport to arrive?
Thanks in advance for an early reply…and congrats once again…Wish you and Prab All the best in CANADA !!
    Regards,
    AMAN KUMAR

      Hi Aman πŸ™‚

Thanks for stopping by and I’m glad this is of help to you and others. Usually, the medicals arrive within a month of the 2nd AOR. Now that your 2nd AOR has come, I suggest you send a case specific inquiry and update your family status to them, before they process the medicals. This way will save you sometime. I suggest you send a hard copy of the family status update to them by courier, just in case they miss the CSI. Once they receive the info, they will send you instructions as to how to add the baby to your application. Good luck to you πŸ™‚

      Indira Prabhakaran.

        Dear Madam,
Many thanks for a prompt reply !
I am planning to send a CSI through their website link.
        Also please guide me…
        1) shall I include Bank draft of $150 for baby’s application processing charges right now with the hard copy through courier?? The payment should be payable at Canada or New Delhi ?
        2) May I send a notarized attested copy of the baby’s birth certificate or the original birth certificate (I have procured about 7 originals from the Municipal authority, so sending original isnt a problem)
        3) It seems foolish to ask but yet I will ask u…could they be asking for a PCC/any kind of police verification for the baby (or its birth)?

Thanks once again….and I must say..I’ve sort of started to love your blog !
        Deep regards,
        Aman Kumar

        1. Indira

          Hi Aman,

I suggest you wait for their instructions and then send the BD and birth certificate. They keep changing processes often and so it’s better to let them know of the new baby before your medicals are sent out. Even otherwise, it will only add a slight delay to the application. Nope, no PCCs for kids :). Just send them a letter, informing them about the new baby and as them how to add the kid to the application.

          Thanks,

          Indira Prabhakaran.

    One question ma’am,
If the NDVO issues a 2nd AOR, does it mean that they are through with the things like employer verifications, reviewing of credentials, checking Proof of funds and background checks etc ?
    Pls advise

    Regards,
    Aman

    1. Indira

2nd AOR just means they have received your application and is accepted for processing. employer verifications, reviewing of credentials, checking Proof of funds and background checks all happen after that :).

      Indira Prabhakaran.

  4. Aman Kumar

    Thank you so much πŸ™‚
Just keeping my fingers crossed and a bit nervous and afraid from my past employer’s side, that he may not goof up with the verification enquiry part πŸ™
Am I right to believe that it would be only a telephonic enquiry/verification or any other thing/form of verification check from the employer can be expected?

    Regards,
    AMAN KUMAR
(Hope u have started ur job hunt…best wishes to u and Prab)

    1. Indira

It only happens for a very small % of files. It could be a personal visit, email or a telephone call.

I will be gratful if we stay in touch here

  6. Uzma

    Hey Indira ….
Many many congratualtions to u on ur success ….i really enjoy reading ur blog and also had great help from your posts in the canadavisa forum…
I have a question to ask you about the landing… We are leaving for canada soon but we will be staying in a hotel for the first one or two weeks. Since we wont have a permanent address (neither any friend’s address), I would like to know how to go ahead with the application for SIN card and also when they ask for the address for the PR card at the airport.
Hope to get your reply soon.
    Thanks
    Uzma

    1. Indira

      Hi Uzma,

Good to see you here :). Congrats on the visa!

I’m unsure, I think you can update the address for the PR card later, once you find a place to live. But for the SIN card, they will need a valid proof of address.

      Thanks,

      Indira Prabhakaran.
