We are here :)

We are here 🙂

Landed safely on the 10th September. Landing formalities weren’t that complicated as expected. We get the customs declaration cards on the flight, and will have ample time to fill it out ;). I’ve outlined the stages of the landing procedures for reference.

1. Present the customs declaration card and the passports at the customs counters. Here they just check our identity and visa stamps.

2. Proceed to the immigration counters, where an officer will help us complete the landing procedures. The CPR documents are checked and we get a copy of the landing document(CPR). This is a very important document and needs to be produced on and off at a lot of occasions including the application for citizenship after 3 years.

3.  Next, we are directed towards another counter, where an officer gives us information pamphlets on few important stuff.

4. Next we come to the secondary customs where the B4 forms are required. Yes, we got the forms stamped and the officer was extremely satisfied with the prep work for this :).

5. That’s it, we are now permanent residents of Canada 🙂 🙂 :).

Excited,

Indira Prabhakaran.

    hello indira,
congrats on ur becoming Canadian PR. Waiting for my turn at the airport on 19th October. still in search of accommodation for a short stay of 12days (between 19th and 31st of October). If u find any pls help me out. Stay blessed.

    1. Indira

      Hello,

I can understand your situation, I would suggest you stay in some hotels/ Motels etc., as it is so difficult for a newcomer to find a place to stay for 12 days. As for us, we wanted to rent an apartment before we arrived and we used craigslist site for that.

Thanks & Regrads, vpzala.

    1. Indira

      Hi Vpzala,

Unsure where you read that NDVO can keep our passports for 3 months max? Please let me know the location and I will have to correct it.

NDVO takes anywhere from 15 days to 6 months to stamp the visas, after they received the RPRF and passports. So you might have to hang in there.. The day is not far away 🙂

      Good luck.

    Hi Indira,

I got my PR visa. Thinking of landing in April. I am the unfortunate few who has no friends or relatives in Canada. No address in Canada for correspondence. I intend stay in Toronto for a week and then return to my home country. At the POE what address will I give for the PR card?

    Needed your expert reply.

    Regards,
    Ken

    1. Indira

I’m sorry :(. I do not have an answer for you. May be you can look at http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/skilled-worker-professional-immigration-b4.0/ for an answer.

    Hi Indiraji,

By The ALMIGHTY GOD, I have received my VISA.I am planning to land in on 25th February 2012. My final destination is Brandon. So i have to take flight upto winnipeg and there my friend will come to receive.

Air india filght upto torrento and for winnipeg i have to change another flight by Air canada.

Now My question is that, what is time takes by immigration and custom dept for completiing all stated(in your blog) procedures?.

my connecting filght have only 2 lay hours will do for all this above procedure as well as check in procedure for domestic.

    regards,

    Devangi Shah

    1. Indira

      Congrats Devangi :).

I suggest a gap of 4 hours minimum between the flights at Toronto airport. The entire landing process at the airport could take anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours, depending on the delay. It all depends on the number of people in the queue ahead. 2 hours gap looks too risky for me. What if the flight gets delayed? What if you have to change terminals for the new flight? Believe me, it’s not worth the risk.

    Hi Indira,

Do we need to apply for health insurance at the POE during landing or at the service Canada center? Is a proof of address again required for delivery of health cards?

Do we get the SIN card the same day we apply or is there again a delay like PR cards?

    Do answer my queries.

    Ken

    1. Indira

      Hi Ken,

I’m not sure if you mean the Free provincial health insurance or the ones that cover us for the waiting period for the health insurance. If it’s the former, we will have to apply for it at a service Canada centre after we land. Yes, proof of residence is required for the health insurance coverage by the provincial government.
We will get the SIN number instantly but the plastic card arrives later.

    Hello Indira,

I applied under the old catagery in 2004 September and updated my IRPA documents in December 2008. I got my CAIPS report checked twice, but no movement of my file seen on it.

I sent out enquiries to CHC, New Delhi but they gave only standard replies.

My question is whether I will be able to make it, at least in 2013.

    thanks

    Hi Indira,
I had applied for PR for Calgary, Alberta. Can I go to Edmonton as they are in the same province? If I were to apply for the PR Card at Immigration and furnish my Edmonton address, would that suffice? Or do I have to furnish a Calgary address for PR Card application?
    Many Thanks,
    Shek
